Fitness
The subject of fitness is an easy no brainer for me, because exercise is as much a part of me as my arms and legs are. There was a time when work colleagues gave me an additional middle name – “must go to the gym first”. However, I do know that this is not the case for many people. Unless you’ve been living under a rock or purposely blocked your ears – I’m sure you’ve heard lots of “should be exercising” rants. I’ll keep mine brief, and in the words of Nike –“Just Do It”.
It all starts with the decision to do so (crucial), then scheduling in the time for it (you can start small and increase it later), and finding what you like to do (no use running if you hate that). Most gyms allow at least a week’s trial, so you can experiment with different choices there.
Starting with something as simple as a walk around the block during your lunch break is better than nothing.
For effectiveness, my top 3 powerful recommendations for overall balance are: HIIT (high intensity interval training), Resistance (weights) and Stretch. To be honest with you, I frequently forget to stretch and pay the price at the next yoga class!
Group classes are fun and offer a variety of movements to provide a good overall workout. I used to do a lot of high impact aerobics years ago, but now I’m a fan of “boxfit”
Nutrition
Your body needs fuel and hydration. However, over the years our world has increased the amount of processing and modifying to ridiculous amounts. If you pick up products in the supermarket and actually read the list of ingredients, it is highly likely you’ll be seeing a whole lot of things that probably belong in a science room, not your stomach!
A balanced diet of highly nutritious foods will reward the body with radiant health. Essentials are: Water. A great variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, lean protein or plant based protein, whole grains, natural yoghurt and good oils.
