Did you know that it is really important to drink water soon after waking up? The brain has a higher percentage of water than our body does, therefore it is essential to keep it hydrated. Especially after a night of sleep, the brain needs it’s dose of water, otherwise it will shrink – literally! Your body will thank you for that glass of water too 🙂
Just as our body requires nutrition, so does the brain. There are a variety of foods that are beneficial to the brain, however foods containing – antioxidants, healthy fats/essential oils, vitamins and minerals are important. Examples include: Avocado, Beans, Beetroot, Blueberries, Broccoli, Coconut Oil, Green leafy vegetables, Olive Oil, Salmon & other naturally oily fish, Turmeric, and Walnuts. For a sweet treat – dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa). My healthy home-made chocolate (recipe courtesy of Kristina from Anytime Fitness) is simple and includes two of these top nutrients (equal parts of 1:coconut oil, 2:honey or rice malt syrup and 3:cacau or cocoa).
The mind is constantly bombarded with messages via sounds, words, images, signs/banners, not to mention our own thoughts (apparently 60-70,000 per day!). Therefore, consciously putting positive words into your mind and avoiding the negative as much as possible will keep you in a better feeling state. For me, personally, I’m very selective about what I watch on TV, what I choose to listen to and read (never the news, and I don’t scroll thru or do social media in the same way that the average person does). Purposely listening to uplifting music with positive lyrics is beneficial.
What we think, feel and do today is contributing to our tomorrows. We have the power of choice over our thoughts in any given moment. Even in moments of unpleasant circumstances or surroundings, the mind can create a nicer perception.
What will you be in the process of creating today?
